You may know that I'm a big fan of the lowly zip lock bag. It can be used to corral extra cords, stash manuals and spare parts together and keep dead batteries until it's time to drop them off. They excel at toiletries, vitamins and other little items one travels with.

I've used zip locks to stow jewelry in my suitcase. They work okay, but the necklaces to get kind of tangled up. From Real Simple comes a cool travel packing idea that's a close relative to the zip lock bag.Take a sheet of bubble wrap and lay your jewels out on it. Then roll it up and tape it.

I recommend forgoing the tape and just stuffing the roll into your handy zip lock. That would keep it rolled up and not destroy it with tape.
